Nomads Gypsy Food Wagon

We have entered an exciting new phase of our attempt to lead a sustainable nomadic life. After traveling to SE Asia, Philippines and the South Pacific for a year, we are back in Cape Town, South Africa, which is our home base for the summer months. Before we left on our trip we sold much of our possessions, including our big Victorian house in the upmarket Gardens area of Cape Town. We used the proceeds of the sale to buy my family home from my 90 yr old parents…they are now financially independent for the first time in their lives :). Some of the money financed our island adventure trip, and the rest of the money has been invested and produces a monthly income for us to live on.

We are trying out various options to make our nomadic life an ongoing reality, and for the next 6 months we will be leading a gypsy lifestyle while traveling to festivals, markets and events with our newly acquired Gypsy Food wagon, from which we will sell tasty food from around the world, inspired by the food we ate on our travels. We also bought a cool 1976 Jurgens Autovilla to tow the wagon to more distant towns, as we can then sleep in the camper when overnighting.

Of course, we will also do catering for weddings, 21st parties and events, with our themed food wagon adding a visual element to any function. Themed gypsy, bohemian and 60’s/70’s functions will be even more groovy with our Autovilla and wagon on site…

Our Gypsy Food Wagon provides a varied international menu of tasty, delicious food cooked in the wagon itself. Dishes include:

  • Maldivian Coconut Curry -mild curry with coconut cream, potato and onion served with rice. Chicken/Vegetable
  • Sicilian Spaghetti and Meatballs – Nonna Serra’s traditional recipe. Beef/Vegan
