Covid19 = No Travelling
As most travellers have come to realize, the advent of a global pandemic stopped international travel in its tracks for those of us who travel for prolonged periods of time. It has been no different for us. We had planned to travel to Seychelles, Sri Lanka and India in 2020, followed by a trip to SE Asia and Vietnam in 2021…Instead we have had to remain in Cape Town, South Africa for the past 16 months. But we have not sat around doing nothing at all π
In order to keep busy, and earn some sort of income, we started two small businesses during our stay in Cape Town…www.nomadstours.co.za and www.nomadscampers.co.za. We have two overland 4×4’s and a VW Campervan which we use not only for our Photo Roadtrips and Tours, but also to rent out to fellow travellers. This has allowed us to continue to travel locally in South Africa at least. To date we have done several local trips within the borders of South Africa. Our 10 day trip to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in Sept/Oct 2020 saw us take a 2500km trip in our Toyota Landcruiser with two fellow photographers…It was so amazing to be traveling again and shooting on a daily basis π Then in March/April 2021 we took a 18 day trip up to get married in the Drakensberg mountains at the famous Cathedral Peak…En route we shot content for LancΓ΄me Paris with Akhona as the model π Of course, this was a very exciting trip for us for obvious reasons. We are now Mr and Mrs Serra π
Through Nomads Tours we have also run monthly group photoshoots and a few weekend Photo Trips with three photographers and a fashion model or two. These can only happen when lockdown regulations permit of course. As I write this post we cannot run any workshops, or shoot at outdoor locations as wearing masks in public are compulsory.
Recently we flew up to Durban to collect a beautiful 1983 VW Jurgens Autovilla motorhome and drive it back to Cape Town. Once again we travelled the beautiful Wild Coast and Garden Route on our trip, which are very exotic regions of South Africa…As always, adventures were had on all of our road trips.
South Africa has see-sawed from Level 5 to Level 4 to Level 3 to Level 1, then back to Level 2 and Level 3 thus far…Our Covid19 regulations have been fairly strict, with restaurants closing under Level 4 and 5, and alcohol sales being outlawed several times over the past 16 months.
So while we cannot travel internationally for the next year or so, we will continue to make shorter trips and travel whenever we can π
